GJB 599A (GJB 599A-1998, updated 2012) is the Chinese national military standard for high-reliability circular connectors. It is functionally derived from MIL-DTL-38999 Series III but incorporates testing protocols from GJB 1217 (China's equivalent to MIL-STD-1344). For international buyers, understanding these differences is critical — assuming a GJB 599A connector is a "clone" of D38999 can lead to qualification failures.

Grade G is standard-sampling with AQL 0.65 — suitable for most defense ground and naval applications. Grade T uses AQL 1.0 and is appropriate for non-safety-critical industrial use.
Procurement tip: When requesting J599 connectors, always specify the grade. A "J599/20FC35PN" without a grade prefix defaults to G grade. For space applications, explicitly request J-grade with full traceability documentation.
GJB 599A uses a plating code system that overlaps MIL-DTL-38999 but adds several unique finishes:

The Zn-Ni (Z) finish is a distinctly Chinese innovation — combining the corrosion resistance of cadmium (500h salt spray) with RoHS/REACH compliance. It has become the preferred choice for naval and coastal defense applications. Anodic oxidation (A) provides a non-conductive black finish ideal for low-observability (stealth) applications.
GJB 599A uses the same shell style codes as MIL-DTL-38999:

Insert arrangements follow the MIL-DTL-38999 catalog — 9-35 (6× #22D), 11-35 (13× #22D), 13-35 (22× #22D), and so on. However, GJB 599A also defines several China-specific insert arrangements for applications unique to PLA requirements (not publicly cataloged). For export, standard MIL arrangements are used.
GJB 599A qualification testing follows GJB 1217 (军用电子元器件电性能测试方法) rather than MIL-STD-1344. While most test procedures are harmonized, there are notable differences:
